What to Expect at Matangi Island Resort

Your Matangi Island Resort adventure begins the moment your inter-island flight touches down on Taveuni Island at the local Matei airport.

Once you deplane, you will be met by Matangi's friendly Fiji representative, who will assist you in placing your bags on the air-conditioned minivan (this may be the last time you carry your luggage!). He will transfer you down the very scenic 'Taveuni highway', which offers wonderful views of the South Pacific Ocean, neighboring Fiji islands, secluded bays, and tropical rainforest. You will travel through Fijian villages with smiling children waving as you pass by... saying "Bula!"

The water taxi awaits your arrival on Taveuni's black sand beach. Upon arrival at the beach, you will need to remove your shoes so that you can wade onto the transfer boat. This may also be the last time for shoes until your return to the real world, you certainly do not need them at the resort!

The short boat ride to Matangi Island and the tropical island resort is stated in one word, stunning! You will travel past Fijian villages on the island of Qamea, the island many of Matangi's friendly staff call home. You can see the wonderful scenery and landscape of the area, and view some of the outlying islands. As you approach Matangi Island, you will hardly notice the South Pacific resort set amongst the trees and private grounds. Matangi Island Resort is neatly tucked amongst beautiful palm trees and tropical gardens, with soaring cliffs behind and the stunningly beautiful beaches and crystal clear South Pacific Ocean in front.

As you are assisted off the boat, you will be met by one of Matangi Resort's smiling Fiji Island staff, who will greet you with a friendly "Bula!", and hand you a refreshing coconut drink. Your luggage will be delivered to your bure as you are led to check in at the resort office. After a quick orientation you will be escorted to your private bure. This will be your home away from home at Matangi Resort.

The rest of your holiday is up to you!
